Thank you always for using Nuita.

We are pleased to report that Nuita’s database has successfully completed a diet. Memory usage went from 2.4GB down to 0.7GB, a reduction of about 70%. For a person weighing 154 lbs, that would be coming out at 44 lbs. And somehow it is working with more energy than before.

Following on from our recent move to Singapore, this is another story from behind the scenes. While you were all deeply absorbed in ejaculating, the development team was quietly at work in the depths of the server.

What Is a Database, Exactly?

A database is the piece of software that stores every one of your nweets and every piece of your fap material. It is the beating heart of the service. Think of it as the clerk who, every time you report “I nutted!”, meticulously writes that one entry into a ledger. The contents of that ledger are, of course, never shown to anyone.

Until now Nuita has used MySQL (the most widely used database software in the world), and this time we switched over to MariaDB (a sibling piece of software, built by the original creator of MySQL). The ledger carries over exactly as it was, and yet, for some reason, it eats far less.

How Much Weight Did It Lose?

Here are the numbers the development team actually measured.

  • Before the switch (MySQL): about 2.4GB of memory
  • After the switch (MariaDB): about 0.7GB of memory

Same ledger, same work, and that is the difference. We tested beforehand on a copy of the production data: search results matched exactly, and page load times were unchanged. In other words, it lost the weight without giving up a single thing.

Let’s Talk Money

Server fees are billed according to how much memory you use. So when the database slims down, the invoice slims down with it.

  • Before the switch: about $25/month for the database
  • After the switch: about $9/month for the database

That is roughly one third of what it was, and a saving of about $190 a year. Nuita is run without taking a single cent from any of you, so everything we save goes straight back into making Nuita better. Combined with the savings from the move to Singapore, Nuita’s server costs have been cut by more than half over this summer alone. Watching expenses drop this pleasurably is, for the development team, a kind of ejaculation in its own right.

How Did the Move Itself Go?

To transfer the ledger, the service was down for about 20 minutes on the evening of August 24th. We counted all 106,420 nweets without missing a single one, confirmed that the totals matched perfectly between the old and new databases, and only then made the switch. Not one shot of your ejaculation history has been lost.

If any of you happened to ejaculate during those 20 minutes of downtime and thus missed your chance to report, we sincerely apologize. Please record that one on the timeline of your heart.

In Closing

Nothing about the look or the feel of Nuita changes with this switch. All that changed is that the database behind the scenes got slimmer, and running Nuita got a little lighter.

Should you run into any problems, please let us know through the contact form. Thank you for your continued support of Nuita.
